Did you know that the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force offers a variety of educational presentations for our community? This is a FREE service that we offer to help parents, kids, educators and caretakers understand how to keep the kids in their lives safer online. With the evolving changes in technology, it is important to be able to recognize online dangers. Below are the programs that are currently being offered with the Colorado Springs Police Department ICAC Task Force.
3rd grade-5th grade: Presentation materials are from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). This presentation will focus on teaching children to exhibit good behaviors online while keeping themselves safe. This presentation includes discussion, animated videos and quizzes for classroom interaction. Children will learn what it means to be a good digital citizen, what to do when they see inappropriate content, and how to protect themselves online. This presentation will run approximately 45 minutes.
Middle School: Presentation materials are from Digital Futures Initiatives (DFI). Tweens and teens will learn about digital media influence, cyberbullying, sexting, platform addiction, inaccurate information on the Internet, and online predatory behavior. This presentation will run approximately 45 minutes.
Parent/Educator: Vigilant Parent Initiative is a program that was developed by the San Jose ICAC. This is a hands-on learning approach to give parents/educators a deeper dive into the current trending apps. Each participant will receive an iPad to use throughout the presentation preloaded with the apps used in class. The presentation will go over the safety features of each app, the hidden features, case examples of online safety concerns, and an overall tutorial on how to keep your children safer online. Q&A will be available for parents after each session.
